Random Album Cover Assignment - TGJ 3MG and TGJ 2O1

This assignment forces you to get creative with a random band name, album title and image. You must decide, based on the name of the band you are given, what the style of music and personality of the band is. Then, based on your decision, create the album cover by choosing an appropriate typestyle and layout. The only things you can use are the image you are given, the name you are given and the title. Have fun! When you are finished, write a brief paragraph justifying your choices – see the examples in the .pdf in the drop folder.

Instructions:

1. Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2. Go to "Random quotations"or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3

The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 . Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days

Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Use Photoshop or Illustrator to put it all together.

5. Repeat this activity twice! Make two completely different album covers.

6. Post the results to your blog with your written statements.

TGj 3MG - For Monday Feb. 23/09

Keep on working on your elements and principles assignment, but also, double check and make sure your vector posting is adequate. I noticed that a few of you posted your vector tracing work and even wrote the required paragraph. Some of you haven't posted anything however and none of you posted any rough work of your elements and principles assignment.
Keep in mind, not only can I see your work, but I can also check and see when the last time you posted was and "1 week ago" means that you haven't posted anything since last week!

Stay on top of things Grade 11s. It's only going to pick up speed from here. Don't worry though, if you're confused and need help, I'll be back tomorrow (Tuesday - almost guaranteed).

TGJ 3MG - Notes for Thursday and Friday

Hello grade 11 Graphics students! I'm away sick but you've got your work cut out for you. By now you should have posted your vector drawings. Keep in mind that I will be checking your work this week and expect to see both drawings as well as a written statement. Please double check the old posting on the vector assignment and make sure you have completed the assignment to the best of your ability! You can always edit your postings! Make sure your vector assignment is complete and as perfected as you want it to be by the end of the week because I will be marking it over the weekend.
As for this week, you should be working on your elements and principles assignment. Please check the posting for the specifics of the assignment. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to hand out the printed copies. You'll have to make do.
Your task for Friday is to post your rough work to your blog by the end of the period.
Please save your Illustrator files for the web and create a new post and and the image of your .gif or .jpg file. I will be giving you a progress mark.
Please make sure that your blog is set up and that you have sent me a comment with your URL, name and class.

TGJ 3MG - Vector object assignment

By the end of Wednesday's class, you should have completed both your vector tracing and your freeform illustration of the object. Your first one should be dynamic, show variety in line type, quality and width. Be precise with your lines and vary the blacks and the whites in the illustration. Your second illustration should be more free and loose and should express more emotion.

Your next step is to post your illustrations to the blog and write a brief paragraph about them.
1. From Illustrator, save both illustrations under Save for Web (as a jpg)
2. From your blog, create a new post. Write a paragraph that describes the process you went through to create your illustrations, what tools you used, what you learned, which illustration you think turned out the best and why.
3. To add an image, find the icon of the picture in the New post window and browse for your saved jpg files.

Good luck
